Located at the center of Swarthmore village and at the edge of the Swarthmore College campus, the 45,000-sf mixed-use Swarthmore Town Center West complex includes a 40-room Inn; meeting and event banquet facilities; a bookstore; and the 100-seat Broad Table Tavern Restaurant.
Swarthmore College is a Quaker school established in 1864 that prides itself on a global outlook, student diversity and an emphasis on independent learning. The college’s trustees wanted the inn to reflect Quaker values, the history of the college and the natural setting of the beautiful Scott Arboretum. The Inn’s artwork collection was produced entirely by Swarthmore art students and alumni.
The design of the Inn at Swarthmore conveys the college’s Quaker heritage and relationship to the community. The architectural design takes inspiration from Quaker simplicity, with clean lines and well-crafted detailing. The project, designed to LEED Silver standards includes innovative design and construction details. The project is currently pending certification under the LEED v2009 for New Construction Rating System.
